Industry News 📰

Les Mills Launches "Bodypump Heavy" for Strength Seekers

During the 45th Annual HFA Show in mid-March, industry giant Les Mills unveiled BODYPUMP HEAVY™, a new program designed to bridge the gap between group fitness and the squat rack. This launch taps into the "JOMO" (Joy of Missing Out) trend of 2026, where consumers are choosing intentional, high-intensity strength sessions over high-volume "junk volume" cardio.

CrossFit Open 26.3: The "Great Separator" Bar Muscle-Up

The 2026 CrossFit Open officially wrapped its three-week run with Workout 26.3, a grueling two-part test of thrusters and gymnastics. Heavy thrusters and bar muscle-ups acted as the ultimate filters for the global leaderboard. While South Korea maintained its streak as the most competitive region (with an 88% Rx'd rate), only 5% of men and 3% of women worldwide managed to finish all 170 reps before the 15-minute time cap.

Industry Milestone: U.S. Gym Memberships Hit Record 77 Million

The Health & Fitness Association (HFA) released its 2026 Global Report, confirming that the U.S. fitness industry has reached an all-time high of 77 million members. Interestingly, the data shows a "middle-class surge," with high growth in middle-income households and a distinct shift in equipment use. Participation in longevity-focused activities (like Pilates and recovery-based training) has risen significantly, while traditional HIIT and bootcamp participation have flattened for the first time in a decade.

The Owner's Corner Helping gym owners achieve sustainable growth Rethink Your Job Post The best job ad ever written said nothing about the job. In 1914, Ernest Shackleton needed a crew to sail to the South Pole. He could have written: "Sailors needed. Must know how to hoist sails, swab decks, navigate ice waters. 2+ years experience required." Instead, he wrote: "Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of...

The Owner's Corner Helping gym owners achieve sustainable growth How to Turn Your Gym Members into Your Best Marketing Team Let’s be honest — in 2025, paid ads cost more than a new squat rack, and social media algorithms change faster than your clients’ excuses for skipping leg day. But there’s one marketing strategy that never goes out of style (and doesn’t require a marketing degree): your members. Here's how to make it happen. 1. Create “Instagram‑able” Moments People love to share their...
