Industry News 📰

Hyrox Sold to an L Catterton-Led Group at a Reported ~$700M Valuation

Infront Sports & Media sold its majority stake in Hyrox to a consortium led by L Catterton, with co-founders Christian Toetzke and Moritz Fürste staying on as partners. Terms weren't disclosed; Bloomberg had previously reported a valuation of roughly €600M (~$697M). Hyrox expects more than 2 million athletes in the 2026/27 season. Hybrid racing is now a category serious money is betting on. Coaches who can program for it, and gyms that offer it, are positioned for where members are headed.

The government just cut its job-growth forecast for trainers

The latest BLS numbers put the median annual wage for fitness trainers and instructors at $47,160 as of May 2025, with employment projected to grow 7% from 2025 to 2035. That's still faster than average, but it's down from the prior forecast, which projected 12% growth from 2024 to 2034 on a median of $46,180. The takeaway: pay is inching up while projected demand growth is cooling, so the best coaches will get more selective about where they work.

GLP-1 users are exercising less, and that's an opening for coaches

A study presented at ENDO 2026 found that adults losing weight on GLP-1 medications significantly decreased their physical activity, even though these drugs reduce lean muscle along with fat. Meanwhile, one industry tracker reports 13.2% of U.S. adults have now taken a GLP-1, and 23 fitness clubs have launched GLP-1-related programs as of July 2026. The takeaway: members on these meds need strength training to protect muscle, and many aren't getting it. Coaches who can program for this group have an underserved market.

Man with arms crossed in a gym

The Owner's Corner Helping gym owners achieve sustainable growth The leads problem in front of you. The average gym gets 32 to 36 leads a month. Six of them book an appointment. Two join. That's from Two-Brain's 2025 State of the Industry report. And buried in the same section is the number that should concern you: 14% of gyms never call their leads at all. Not "call eventually." Not "call twice and give up." Never! This is a real missed opportunity. Ask a room of gym owners what they need...

A man in a white shirt is standing in a gym

The Owner's Corner Helping gym owners achieve sustainable growth The Coach You're About to Lose Last month a gym owner told me he got blindsided. His best coach - five years on staff, the one members asked for by name - handed in two weeks' notice on a Tuesday. "No warning," he said. Except there was. There always is. He just never asked. Here's the part owners underrate: when a coach walks, they don't leave alone. Around 45% of members stick around because of their relationship with staff,...

A man in a white shirt is standing in a gym

The Owner's Corner Helping gym owners achieve sustainable growth Can your gym survive without you for two weeks? Not “run a little rough.” Not “the front desk texts you six times a day.” Actually run — classes covered, payroll processed, problems solved, members happy — while you’re somewhere with bad cell service. If the answer is no, I have bad news: your gym is worth a lot less than you think it is. I learned this the hard way. I used to own a gym. I sold it. And over the years I’ve worked...
