Hi Reader,
We're back with Part 2 of how to implement virtual interviews to save you time in your hiring process. Missed Part 1? Check your inbox and open it you silly goose.
Let's pick up where we left off.
Steps for Candidates to Follow to Record and Submit
To streamline the process, give candidates clear instructions on how to record and share their YouTube videos:
- Set Video to "Private": Candidates can upload their video to YouTube and set it as "Private" in the privacy settings, so only people with the link can view it.
- Share the Link: Candidates send the private link back to you, ensuring confidentiality.
-
Guidelines for Recording:
- Environment: Encourage candidates to record in a quiet, well-lit space.
- Dress Code: Suggest dressing as if it’s an in-person interview.
- Device: Candidates can use a smartphone, webcam, or any device with good video and audio quality.
Review Process and Feedback
We always suggest blocking out some time and going through interviews all in one block. That way, your headspace is similar in order to evaluate candidates fairly.
Also, pay attention to how each candidate answered each question. If they dodge or don't even answer the question, it could likely mean an instant disqualification. Of course, use your judgement to calibrate the prompt. If nobody ends up submitting, you might have to ask easier questions or shorten the assignment. Only increase the complexity if you are flooded with candidates and need to create a more stringent filter.
Here are some next steps:
- Efficient Reviewing: With concise video responses (around 5–10 minutes total per candidate), you can review submissions quickly, focusing on key points.
- Shareable Links: You can easily forward or share the YouTube links with other decision-makers on your team.
- Provide Clear Feedback: After reviewing the videos, provide timely feedback to candidates and let them know the next steps in the process.
There you have it. Now you are ready to save yourself some time, and get a really strong sense for candidate quality with minimal time commitment.
Give this a try and let us know how it goes. Best of luck and happy hiring!
